Description:
For seminar 7 (April 21, 2009), NSDL featured our experts Jennifer Fee, BirdSleuth Project Leader for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology; Colleen McLinn, Outreach Associate for the Macaulay Library of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology; and Jessica Fries-Gaither, Project Director and Elementary Resource Specialist at Ohio State University. Studying birds provides opportunities for inquiry teaching and a context for students to collect data and observations of the natural world. Our presenters highlighted educational resources from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as well as strategies to study of birds of the polar regions with literacy and reading goals in mind. These resources are a part of the February 2009 issue of Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears, a cyberzine for teacher professional development. The National Science Teachers Association and NSDL present a monthly series of web seminars for the 2008-2009 school year for teacher professional development that showcase NSDL experts and resources.
