The National Science Teachers Association and NSDL present a monthly series of web seminars for the 2008-2009 school year for teacher professional development showcasing NSDL experts and resources. For seminar 3 (November 13, 2008), Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears: Energy and the Polar Environment, NSDL featured our experts Jessica Fries-Gaither, Project Director and Elementary Resource Specialist for the Ohio Resource Center, and Dr. Carol Landis, Education Coordinator at the Byrd Polar Research Center for this seminar that was designed for K-5 educators. They shared content resources, lesson plans, and children's literature from the Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears cyberzine related to science concepts related to the study of heat, reflection, albedo, light, and temperature with a focus on common student misconceptions around these ideas.
